What's new

New features, improvements and fixes in Harboro.

  • New

    Frames of a video

Video pages have a new Frames tab with pictures from across the video. Click one to jump to that moment. Videos uploaded before now get theirs when you regenerate their preview or upload a new version.

  • New

    AI summaries of videos

Videos now get AI summaries and tags, so you can find them by what they show. The summary looks at frames from across the video, not its sound, so it can't tell you what is being said. A new upload starts its summary as soon as its frames are ready, which can take a few minutes for long videos.

  • Improved

Suggestions for selected files without a summary

"Suggest folders and names" now generates the missing AI summaries first, so you no longer have to run Summarize and ask again. For files outside the inbox, the suggestion is charged to your AI budget on top of the summary.

  • New

Tidy up several files at once

Select files on the files page and choose "Suggest folders and names". The suggestions for files with an AI summary appear in a list where you accept or dismiss them, one by one or all together. It stops when your AI budget is used up.

  • Fixed

Getting a suggestion in the inbox always works

"Get a suggestion" and "Get suggestions" in the inbox did nothing for files that already had an AI summary. They now ask for a folder and name from that summary, and tell you when there is no better one.

  • Fixed

    More reliable folder suggestions

Similar files only change a suggested folder when they clearly point to one folder, and a fitting folder of different kinds of documents is no longer dropped. New folders are no longer suggested with vague names like "Photos".

  • Fixed

    Better folder suggestions

Suggested folders now take into account what a folder holds, not just its name, so a screenshot no longer ends up in a folder of photos because of a matching word. Files like the ones in a folder are suggested that folder rather than a new one, and screenshots with a clear topic get a new folder of their own.

  • Improved

    File actions at a glance

A file's page now shows all its actions as buttons below the name instead of hiding them in a menu: download, edit, upload a new version, suggest a folder and name, regenerate the preview and move to trash.

  • Improved

Summaries made for each kind of image

Before summarizing an image, the AI first works out what kind it is, such as a selfie, a pet, a landscape, a meal, a screenshot or a receipt, and then writes the summary with instructions for that kind. Receipts get the shop and total, screenshots the app and what it shows, landscapes the place and season, so you find them by what matters.

  • Improved

    Faces stay in the picture

When a thumbnail of a tall photo or video is cropped to fill its tile, it now keeps the top rather than the middle, so selfies and portraits no longer lose the face. This applies to file cards, folder tiles, the dashboard and search.

  • New

    Choose the AI model

Under Options, AI you can now pick the model behind AI summaries and folder suggestions: Luna, the efficient one you had so far, or Terra, which reads photos, handwriting and scans more precisely and costs about 10 times as much. You can also let the AI reason longer before it answers. A table shows what a photo, a PDF or a suggestion costs with each choice.

  • Improved

AI summaries that focus on what matters

AI summaries of images now focus on what matters for the kind of picture: the people in a selfie or group photo rather than the wall behind them, the key facts of a receipt rather than its layout, the app and content of a screenshot. Existing summaries stay as they are until you generate them again.

  • Improved

    New folders for your inbox

When none of your folders fits a file in your inbox, the AI now suggests a new one, like Insurance / Car, and files like it get the same suggestion. Accepting creates the folder and moves the file, so "Accept all suggestions" can sort a whole inbox into new folders at once. Nothing moves until you accept.

  • Improved

    Choose how previews are cropped

Previews of photos, videos and PDFs are cropped to fill their tiles when little is cut off, which can miss a face at the top of a tall selfie. Under Options, Appearance you can now have them always fill their tiles or always show them whole.

  • Improved

A bigger preview in quick search

On larger screens, the quick search (⌘K or Ctrl K) shows a bigger preview of the selected file next to the results, with its type, size, date and folder, its description and where your search matched. Videos play a short clip.

  • Improved

    Previews in quick search

Files found with the quick search (⌘K or Ctrl K) now show a small preview of photos, videos and PDFs, so you can spot the right one at a glance.

  • Improved

Suggestions for any file, whenever you want

A folder and a clearer name are no longer only suggested for files in the inbox. Choose "Suggest folder and name" in the menu of any file with an AI summary to get a suggestion, also again later or after the file was sorted. Accept it with one click or dismiss it.

  • Improved

    Folders show what is inside

Folders on the files page are now cards as big as your files, with previews of the newest photos and documents in them and how many files and folders they hold. A folder that only holds other folders shows pictures from those. The card size setting changes folders too.

  • New

An inbox that suggests where files belong

Files you upload without choosing a folder now land in the new Inbox. When they get an AI summary, Harboro suggests which of your folders they belong in and a clearer name, like "2026-03 Allianz home insurance policy.pdf" for "scan0042.pdf". Where similar files already are backs the suggestion up. Accept it with one click, move the file somewhere else, or keep it where it is; nothing moves on its own.

  • New

Your own tags, and dates that matter

Tags now belong to your files: edit them on the file page, click one to see every file with it, or filter by tags on the files page. AI summaries still suggest tags until you change them. Files can also have a date, like when a policy expires or a bill is due. AI summaries find such dates in documents, you can set or change them yourself, and the dashboard shows what is coming up.

  • New

Search inside your files, and by meaning

Search now looks inside text files, Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents and PDFs, and shows the passage it found. AI summaries of photos and scanned documents also read the text in them, so that becomes searchable too. Files with an AI summary are found by what they are about, even without the exact words: they show up under Related by meaning. You can filter by when files were uploaded and by size, and "Show all results" in the search box opens all matches on the files page.

  • New

    Folder uploads and more previews

Drop a whole folder, or choose one in the upload dialog, and Harboro recreates it with its subfolders, merging into folders of the same name. Hidden and system files like .DS_Store are left out. File pages now play audio, show text and code with syntax highlighting, and render Markdown, with a switch to its source. HEIC and TIFF photos get a preview that every browser can show.

  • Fixed

    Correct storage usage

Since the last big update, the storage meter only counted files uploaded afterwards. It now counts all your files, old versions and the trash again.

  • New

Duplicates, file versions and a storage page

Harboro now notices when you upload a file you already have and asks whether to skip it or upload it anyway. You can upload a new version of a file from its menu: the name, folder and description stay, and the old versions are kept on the file page, where you can download, restore or delete them. The new Storage page shows what takes up your space, lists duplicates so you can keep just one copy, and shows your largest files and old versions.

  • Improved

    No more analytics

Harboro no longer uses PostHog or any other analytics. Nothing about how you use the app is tracked, and the cookie banner is gone. The privacy policy has been updated to match.

  • Improved

    Regenerate previews

Images, videos and PDFs that ended up without a thumbnail or preview no longer stay that way. If our preview service is down when you upload, Harboro now keeps trying for a few days. You can also choose Regenerate preview in the menu of a file to make its thumbnail and preview again.

  • Improved

    Smoother video previews

Video previews on hover now show three longer clips of two seconds each instead of four one-second ones, so they jump around less. Videos you uploaded before keep their previews.

  • Improved

    Less cropped thumbnails

Wide and tall photos, videos and PDFs now show whole in your files and among the recent files on the dashboard, on a blurred backdrop of themselves, instead of being cut to a square. Video previews on hover fit the same way.

  • Fixed

No file name over playing previews

The file name no longer pops up over a video's preview while it plays among the recent files on the dashboard. Other files still show their name when you rest the pointer on them.

  • Improved

Your files stay in the EU

The files you upload, and their thumbnails and previews, are now stored in the European Union.

  • Fixed

No play icon over playing previews

The play icon on a video in your files now fades out while its preview plays on hover, so it no longer covers the middle of the clip.

  • New

    Video previews on hover

Rest the pointer on a video in your files or among the recent files on the dashboard, and a few silent seconds from across the video play in place of the thumbnail. This works for videos you upload from now on, on devices with a mouse or trackpad, and is off when your device is set to reduce motion.

  • Improved

Thumbnails for PDFs and more videos

PDFs now show their first page as a thumbnail, and videos get one even when your browser can't play them, like many iPhone and camera recordings. Thumbnails are made on our server after the upload, so you no longer have to keep the page open for them.

  • Improved

    Choose your theme in Options

The light and dark theme moved from the account menu to Options, under Appearance. Besides Light and Dark you can now pick System, which follows the setting of your device and switches along with it.

  • Improved

    A calmer files page

Filtering by type now happens in one Filter menu, and the grid or table layout and the card size moved into a View menu, so the toolbar fits in one row. File cards show their pictures edge to edge, quick view appears when you hover a card, and download and move to trash sit in the ⋯ menu. The table now shows a small thumbnail next to each name.

  • Improved

    Harboro gets its own colors

The app now uses the deep slate of the Harboro logo with indigo as its accent instead of plain gray: buttons, switches, the current page in the sidebar and the usage bars are indigo. The numbers on the home page sit together in one panel instead of six separate boxes.

  • Improved

    A tidier sidebar

All pages now fit in the sidebar, also on small screens. Your storage and AI budget sit compactly at the bottom, and the theme switch, imprint, privacy and cookie settings moved into the menu under your name. The files table shows short dates and no longer cuts off its buttons, and a thin bar at the top shows when a page takes a moment to load.

  • Improved

What's new, imprint and privacy stay in the app

When you are signed in, these pages now open next to the sidebar instead of leaving the app, so you can go straight back to your files, and uploads keep running in the background.

  • Improved

    Large photos load faster

File pages and the quick view now show large images in a smaller version made for the screen, so phone photos appear much sooner, especially on mobile data. Downloads still give you the original. These preview versions and thumbnails now count toward your storage, so your usage goes up slightly.

  • Improved

File pages open faster and without jumping

Images on a file's page show their thumbnail right away while the full image loads, and new uploads keep their space from the start, so the page no longer jumps around. The AI summary loads together with the file.

  • Improved

    Better screen reader support

The sidebar now highlights the section of the page you are on, like Files on a file. Screen readers announce the current page and the storage and AI usage bars, and no longer read a name twice next to avatars and thumbnails. Keyboard focus is visible on the dashboard cards, and each file card is a single stop when tabbing.

  • Fixed

    Better on phones

Page headers wrap instead of squeezing their text, the trash and file list tables fit the screen with their buttons in reach, long titles no longer push the search button off the top bar, the settings page stacks its fields, and PDFs and other large previews can be scrolled from the top.

  • Fixed

Easier to read in light mode

Secondary text in light mode, like page subtitles, the storage overview in the sidebar and the changelog, is now darker and easier to read, and the boxes in the sidebar have a visible outline.

  • Improved

    Back button on file pages

The page you’re on in your files and the trash, and your search and sort order on the files page, are now part of the address. Your browser’s back button takes you back to the previous page of files or search, and reloading keeps everything as it was.

  • New

    Getting started

The dashboard now walks you through Harboro: upload a file, create a folder and generate an AI summary. Each step is ticked off once you’ve done it. Hide the steps when you’re done, and show them again any time under Options. The empty files page now has a button to get going.

  • Fixed

Long file names in the upload dialog

Files with long names no longer make the upload dialog scroll sideways. Their names are shortened, and hovering over one shows it in full.

  • Improved

Sort files by name, size and type

The files page can now sort by name, size and type besides upload date, and the new Types filter shows only images, videos, PDFs or documents. Whether you use the grid or the table is remembered across visits and devices.

  • New

    Search everything with Cmd+K

Press Cmd+K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) or the search button at the top to find files and jump straight to them. It also opens any page and lets you upload files from wherever you are.

  • Fixed

    Dialogs scroll on short windows

Forms like uploading files now scroll when the window is too short to fit them, so their buttons are always reachable.

  • Fixed

    PDF previews fit small screens

PDF previews now shrink to fit narrow screens and windows, so you no longer have to scroll sideways to read a page.

  • Improved

    A roomier file page

The preview takes most of the page now, with the details and AI summary beside it. Downloading is at the top, next to the file name, and the page works on phones too.

  • New

    What's new

This page. A dot in the sidebar tells you when there is something new.

  • Improved

Know when a new version is out

Harboro tells you when a new version is available and lets you refresh when it suits you, so nothing you are typing or uploading gets lost.

  • New

    Options for uploads and videos

Choose whether uploads get AI summaries automatically, and whether videos start muted.

  • Improved

    A new video player

Videos play in a new player with keyboard shortcuts and fullscreen, and more formats play in the browser.

  • Fixed

    Upright photo thumbnails

Thumbnails of photos taken in portrait mode are no longer shown sideways.

  • New

    Videos

Upload and play videos. Each one gets a thumbnail, and its duration and size are shown with the file.

  • Improved

Card sizes and pages in the file grid

Pick small, medium or large cards with a bigger preview, and jump straight to a page instead of loading more.

  • New

    Trash

Deleted files go to the trash, where you can restore them for 30 days.

  • New

Work with several files at once

Select files to move, summarize or delete them together.

  • Improved

    Drag and drop uploads

Drop several files on the files page. They upload in the background with progress for each file, so you can keep working.

  • New

    Folders

    Organize files in nested folders.

  • Improved

    AI summaries of documents

AI summaries now work for text files and Office documents, not only images and PDFs.
